First of all, The Writer’s Block is one of a kind bookstore located in Downtown Las Vegas. The feel is that of something you might find in Seattle or on the east coast. However, the abundance of unique features makes it nearly impossible to take everything in on your first visit. Marionettes, polar bears with removable anatomy, books galore, and delicious coffee. What’s not to love?!
Coffee Shop
Due to my love affair with coffee, one of the features of The Writer’s Block that “had me at hello,” is their coffee bar. Honey latte with cinnamon? Yes, please! And let me tell you, that was the first of many that I will be enjoying here. Have I not even mentioned the pastries? Yes, pastries! Mouthwatering chocolate croissants and chocolate chip cookies just for starters. Walking through a bookstore that smells of delicious baked goods the whole way through is a bonus.
Kids programs
As a result of finding The Writer’s Block, my kids were able to participate in a free writing workshop. This course is open to the public and kids spanning in age from 5-12 are welcome. First, students start with the name of the book they are going to write, next they discuss context clues, brainstorm, and then finally write the story they want to tell. This class would have been right up my alley when I was a child. My kids were not as convinced that they would enjoy it, but they were singing another tune when they emerged from their very first class.
Book Club, Signings & Concerts Oh mY!
Lastly, there are book releases, author signings, and concerts are happening consistently at The Writer’s Block. Buying books is just one small part of the equation at this bookstore downtown. It is a hub for all things literary. This addition to the downtown scene is a welcome addition to all those that enter its doors. You owe it to yourself to check out The Writer’s Block. Consequently, when you go to The Writer’s Block there’s a good chance you might find me on my computer with a cup of the aforementioned honey latte. See you soon!
